In a big class, a child might speak only once or twice in a whole lesson. PLI groups are capped at four: every student speaks constantly, and classmates push each other forward.

How a group lesson works
Group classes are live online video lessons of 45 minutes, with four students at most, grouped by age and level. Every class is taught personally by Teacher Matt, a native-speaker teacher who leads the whole lesson and knows every child.
- Before class: materials are sent digitally in advance, so your child arrives prepared.
- In class: your child speaks English in every lesson instead of sitting and listening. With four students at most, their turn comes round every few minutes.
- After class: regular progress tracking and personalized feedback, so you always know your child’s strengths, weaknesses and distance to the goal.
How group classes lead into the Cambridge exams
The broad map: primary school is Cambridge Young Learners (Starters, Movers, Flyers), junior high is KET and PET, senior high is FCE. But what really decides it is level, not grade: two children in the same school year can be two levels apart. Start with a free trial lesson
The trial lesson is free: 45 minutes of live online video, taught by Teacher Matt himself, who assesses your child’s listening, speaking, reading and writing as the lesson goes. There is nothing to prepare beyond a quiet spot and a computer or tablet with internet. Afterwards he tells you straight where your child is, which exam to aim for, and what the lessons and fees would look like; whether you carry on is up to you. One LINE message books it, and Teacher Matt usually replies the same day.
Questions parents ask
How many students are in a group class, and how are groups formed?
Four at most, grouped by age and level. That is a hard cap, not an average. If you would rather the whole lesson were just your child, 1-on-1 is also available.
My child is shy. Will they actually get a turn in a group?
The cap is four precisely so that every child gets called on many times in every lesson. A shy child can go a whole year without speaking in a big class; in a class of four their turn comes round within minutes, and with no audience there is far less pressure.
How much do group classes cost?
It depends on your child’s level and goal, so there is no single price on the website. Start with the free 45-minute trial lesson; once Teacher Matt has confirmed your child’s level he will give you a recommendation and the fee, and you decide from there. No lock-in contracts, no cancellation fees.
How do I choose between a group class and 1-on-1?
Children who enjoy learning with classmates and need plenty of speaking practice suit a group class. A child with a clear target, such as an exam in three months, a school application abroad or a specific weakness to fix, may be better in 1-on-1, where the whole lesson revolves around them. If you are not sure, Teacher Matt will recommend a level and class format after the trial lesson.
When are lessons, and what equipment is needed?
Monday to Saturday, 2:00 to 9:00 PM, 45 minutes each, fully online. Your child needs a computer or tablet with a camera and microphone, plus stable internet; materials are sent digitally before each class.
