PLI isn't a big cram school: we stay deliberately small so every student is seen and heard. Every lesson is taught personally by our founder, Teacher Matt.
Meet Teacher Matt
PLI's founder, Teacher Matt, is a native English speaker with 13 years of professional teaching experience. He lives in Kaohsiung, where he established Practiced Learning Institute in 2020.

A sentence Matt often hears from parents: "My child passed the exam but still won't speak." That's exactly why PLI exists: we teach English kids dare to use; exam results follow naturally.

Our Philosophy
Kids learn fastest in classes they love. Our students look forward to lessons. That is not a slogan: they stay with us more than three years on average.
How Teacher Matt teaches
PLI has been fully online since it was founded in 2020, with no physical classroom. Every lesson is taught personally by Teacher Matt. Group classes have four students at most, grouped by age and level (a hard cap, not an average), and 1-on-1 is also available. Lessons are 45 minutes, and your child spends the whole lesson speaking English, not sitting and listening. Lessons run Monday to Saturday, 2:00 to 9:00 PM.

You start with the free 45-minute trial lesson. Teacher Matt assesses your child's listening, speaking, reading and writing as the lesson goes, and afterwards tells you straight where your child is, which exam to aim for, and what the lessons and fees would look like. Whether you carry on is up to you.
Results and parents' trust
- In KET, PET and FCE, the Cambridge exams that do have a pass mark, every PLI student who has sat one has passed to date. Starters, Movers and Flyers have no pass or fail; results come as shields.
- Students stay more than three years on average. PLI has no lock-in contracts and no cancellation fees.
- Over the past five years about a third of PLI's students have come from Hsinchu families, and most of those arrived on another parent's recommendation rather than through advertising.
- Kevin prepared for the Duolingo English Test in 1-on-1 lessons at PLI, cleared the school's required score, and was admitted to Arizona State University to study interior design.

Where the Cambridge exam information on this site comes from
The Cambridge exam information on this site, for example Cambridge exam levels, Starters to C2 and Cambridge exam dates, is compiled from Cambridge's own published information and from what the three exam centres this site tracks (yle.tw, LTTC and the Taipei YMCA) publish. Both of those pages name their sources and the date they were checked. Exam rules and sittings change, so before registering, go by the latest notice from the exam centre.
